The design brief for this Hamptons renovation was to provide space for outdoor entertaining and guest accommodation, with stylised reference to a soft Italian formality.

Sited longitudinally at the front of the property, the challenge was to include a generous outdoor extension of the house, whilst balancing the northern boundary which cut sharply across the property to a diminished rear canal frontage. A terrace containing the outdoor dining and guest house was created directly off the back of the house, which was divided by formalised steppers which created a strong visual axis to the rear of the garden. A sense of enclosure and intimacy was added to the dining area by setting the terrace within a raised garden, which also provided additional screening from neighbouring visual intrusion.

A 15m lap pool was positioned directly off the pool house, with the rear of the pool extruding 1.2m out of ground to eliminate pool fencing which would hinder water views.
